Zniknięcie (The Disappearance)

Mom is pretty and lovely. Of course! Mine looks like a sorceress. She has long black hair, just like me. Together we do various, most interesting things in the world. But not today... Grandma has gone somewhere and mom is crying. Her tears fall in streams. Straight into the pot where the jam is boiling. My favorite! Strawberry! It could be nice. But my mum can't see me. Even if I make stupid faces. She also doesn't hear when I say bad words. Ass. He, he. In fact, only Czacza wants to talk to me, but it's a cat and doesn't know how.
Ania Drabikowska, translated from Polish
The Disappearance is a picture book about the mourning process from the perspective of a child who does not yet fully understand the meaning of death. It presents a situation in which the child's mum, experiencing the death of her own mother (the girl's grandma), is unable to devote as much attention to the child as usual.
Ania Drabikowska wrote a book that is a good start to talking to a child about a usually overlooked, difficult topic in a safe environment.
My role was whole visual design (book layout, typography, illustrations, cover design).
The book was published in June 2021 by Ezop Publishing House.
The book is recommended by the Polish Section of IBBY on its Post-Competition BIS List.
